"I would like to be known as an intelligent woman, a courageous woman, a loving woman, a woman who teaches by being." Dr. Maya Angelou
    • About Me

"I am a transplant to Pittsburgh from Brooklyn, New York by way of Jamaica. My family and I arrived in America in 1993 and like many immigrants, we came to America to pursue "The American Dream." Coming to America was complete and utter culture shock. My family and I had to adjust to a new culture and way of life, not to mention cold weather. I still remember the blizzard of '93. At age 17, I started  college at the University of Pittsburgh where I assumed leadership positions in several organizations and also served as a Resident Assistant and Freshman Peer Counselor.  These experiences helped me to cultivate the leadership skills that would later serve me well as an entrepreneur. For the last 7 years and since the age of 23, I have been growing my Event Planning and Marketing business Style & Steel on a full time basis and have also created one of the largest annual fashion events in Pittsburgh, Style Week Pittsburgh. Living in Pittsburgh has helped me to realize my purpose which is to help and inspire people and being an entrepreneur has shown me that anything is possible if we believe it be so. While being an entrepreneur has its challenges, I wouldn't have it any other way. By facing challenges head on, we discover our immeasurable strength."
