I am married to George Montgomery and we have one daughter. I am a second term Councilwoman in the City of McKeesport. After high school I obtained a B.A. in Political Science, from one of the oldest historically black Universities, Johnson C. Smith University. Moreover, she went onto obtain a MS in Criminal Justice Administration from Point Park University.
I serve on the McKeesport Recreation Board; Past Chair of the McKeesport Downtown Business Authority, Past Vice Chair of the Home Rule Charter Committee and board member for Carnegie Library of McKeesport. In addition she is the Co-Founder/LeaOrganizer for social activist group Take Action Mon Valley; member of Young Elected Officials Network; Mon Valley People’s Action Committee and African American Elected Officials of Allegheny County. I am also a Christian and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. I was recognized as a 2013 Mon Valley Women of Achievement and 2012 Outstanding Councilwoman by Voice of Vision Outreach Ministries. I am presently running for State Representative (first African-American to run for the seat) of the 35th Legislative District and serves as a Senior Program Manager at Macedonia FACE.
I have been on McKeesport City Council for six years advocating for the people. For three years I was the only African-American on council until recently. During my time on council I have served with colleagues that were arrested; convicted and involved in various scandals. However, I remained focused on serving the people and being an example to the youth. I also serve on the McKeesport Business Authority (past Chair); Recreation Board; Siemper Fidelis Club; Board Member Carnegie Library; PTO; Youth Ministry and participate in my church’s mentor program. Crime is too much of a constant in my area and I want McKeesport/Mon Valley to be known for other things. It’s truly a great area filled with wonderful people. I have used my strong faith and much prayer to overcome these challenges. In addition, I have a strong support system with my husband; daughter and close friends/family. Presently, I am gearing up to run for State Representative of the 35th District against a 12 year incumbent. I will be the first female African-American to run for this seat. In addition, to politics I also serve as a Senior Program Manager at Macedonia FACE in the Hill District.
