Growing up I've always been sure of one thing and that's my passion for writing. When I tell people that I'm a freelance writer it's no surprise to the people who know me. Writing is something that kept me from becoming a product of my environment. My older brother used telling me to "Read a book" as a way of shooing me away but he had no idea what effect that would have on my life.
"I read them all," I told him one day and he said four life changing words.
"Well go write one," and the rest was history. Graduating from Carlow University with a BA in Professional Writing gave me the power to set the bar for not only the young girls in my family but the community. The summer of 2014, I served my community through AmeriCorps by mentoring teenagers giving them the push they needed to ensure they realized the importance of education and living up to their potential while not forgetting to explore their creativity.
Carlow University was a perfect fit for me because it ignited the passion I had for giving back. Helping others makes me appreciate what I have because growing up there were times when my mom struggled to keep food on the table or choose between paying the light bill or the water bill. Writing helped me deal with that and my peers’ harsh criticism about my darker skin. Accepting myself for who I am was the hardest lesson in life growing up. Living up to my expectations is my biggest challenge.
I currently help people publish the book of their dreams and I hope to release more books in the next few years. I want to be a best-selling author and won't stop until I get there.
