Hello, My name is Brandi Lee I am a deaf African American women. I have experienced roadblocks in my life for as long as I can remember. When I was five years old I came down with Scarlet Fever which resulted in my hearing loss in both of my ears. I had four ear surgeries as a young child back to back in hopes of regaining my hearing. Being a deaf adult in a hearing world has been difficult, but I am proud to be deaf and I encourage others to interact with the Deaf Community. After years of going in and out a different colleges, universities and trade schools I decided I would learn American Sign Language at the Community College were I received and ASL Certificate. I am one semester away from receiving my Associates Degree as well as a Certificate in Social Work. I will not stop there either as I have plans to obtain and Bachelor's Degree in Human Services. I believe in community and will do all that I can to help women, men and families empower one another. I am currently employed at Providence Family Support Center as the Program Development Specialist. I also work for Upmc as a Patient Care Tech. As a mother of two boys it has been hard to work two jobs while attending school full-time. With all of that said I am a work in progress but I have goals to reach! I have been abused, I have been depressed, I have been overlooked but I am Beautiful, Brown and Bold today and for days ahead. I hope to encourage not only black women but all women, deaf women, blind women, strong women and especially struggling women, we have all been there and we will all overcome.
