"Be the beautiful you that you know you are."
    • About Me

My name is Anita D. Jones. I am 32 yrs old, and a Training Logistic Coordinator. I was born and raised in Braddock, Pennsylvania a suburb of Pittsburgh. Growing up our family was very close and always helped each other out with shelter, food, and money; whatever was they needed as family should do. In the early 90’s drugs were the apparent reasons many of my family members needed assistance, rather they were users or dealers, it had an enormous impact on our household. I remember my early childhood as being fulfilled; it was me, my older brother, younger sister, and mom and step dad in the household. Then I remember my mother taking in 5 of my cousins, my aunt and grandmother. Our 3 bedroom house was cramped with all of us in there plus people visiting. Money was short, there was no more Christmas or birthdays for me or my brother. There was no money for school clothes, to play sport, or to do anything growing up because my parents had to provide for the younger children in the household. I remember taking my little cousins up to the playground to get a free lunch every day in the summer and sometimes it was the best meal of the day.

As soon as I was able to get a job at 16 I got a job at McDonalds and in the summer I would work at Mcdonalds and Kennywood so I could help my mother out financially. I always wanted to accomplish more in my life; I didn’t want to end up like the rest of my family. I didn’t have any active role models but that didn’t stop me from believing in myself and my determination to break this cycle of drugs and poverty. So I barely graduate high school but I graduated. I obtained my associates degree in Office Administration in 2002, after having 3 sons I completed by bachelor’s degree in Business in 2011. I still couldn’t find a job that would remove me and my sons from the burden of government assistance, so I decided once again that education was my answer. I perused my graduate degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction specializing in Adult Education and graduated in 2015.

Recently I landed a dream job as a training coordinator and the best part is that we no longer need or qualify for government assistance. I want my children to see that nothing can hold them back and they can accomplish anything they want to achieve in life. To date, I am the only person on my maternal side to obtain a bachelor’s degree and the only person in my whole family to earn and graduate degree.

I am extremely proud of my accomplishments and I hope that I can one day give back to my community through access to job readiness classes, training classes, and employment opportunity.
