I am Alvina Vaughan. I am 38 years young and have a 20 year old daughter. I was born and raised in NC and moved to Pittsburgh in 2014. I have been plus size all my life. I went from 357 lbs in 2010 to 180 lbs by 2013. In 2014, I gained 60 lbs, ending at 241 by November 28, 2015. I am currently losing the weight again, I have 35 lbs more to lose. I work very hard as a Program Manager for Brightside Academy, as a Secretary, Program Coordinator and Board Member for the Beltzhoover Neighborhood Council (Non Profit) and I also volunteer to serve the Elderly as much as I can.
Being a teen mom wasn't easy but I managed with the support of my parents. Once my daughter was six months old, I obtained my first job amd have worked ever sense. There were times where I needed public assistance but through years of hard work and presaverance, I have not needed state help for several years. I obtained my Associate degree in 2008, my Bachelor's in 2012 and I am currently in the last year of my Masters. In 2008, I suffered the loss of my brother to Cancer. I went through several years of depression and unfortunately a divorce.
I came to Pittsburgh in 2014, lost and broken. With the odds against me, I fought hard to overcome the obstacles I now faced. And, I won the battle. Failure was not and will never be an option. I have always been beautiful, nutrturing and strong but hope to inspire others to want to be healthy and fall completely in love with themselves. I AM A BEAUTIFUL, BROWN, BOLD WOMAN!
